An attitude of gratitude

I walked into the center this morning and flipped on the light switch.  Aaahhh….finally, the power was on.  For a few days, we’ve been recovering from the hurricane that came through on Sunday.  Many of my customers are still without power, hot water or a way to cook a meal.  I thought of all the things that we often take for granted in life.  Little things like electricity, a hot shower, a meal that doesn’t come from a restaurant (if you could find one that had power).

Here is a great way to start a gratitude journal.  Make a list of all the things you often take for granted throughout your day.  Each day, either before getting up in the morning or before going to bed at night, write out what you are most grateful for that day.  Go back each day and review what you wrote the day before.  When you are feeling sad, frustrated or telling yourself a story about “how bad you have it”, take a look at that journal.  There are a lot of people in the world who would love to have a roof over their head, any amount of money coming in or even shoes. Thank Spirit for your abundance and knowing that you are provided for in every way, every day.

So often in our human condition, we focus on our challenges. Take a few moments and think about the successes you’ve had today – getting up this morning, having a bed to get up out of, brushing your teeth, combing your hair.  These are all things that we often take for granted. Just remember, there are many people who didn’t get out of bed this morning or who even had a bed to sleep in last night.  It’s the little moments of your day that make up the whole.  Each experience is a blessing from Spirit for you to enjoy.

When you have an attitude of gratitude, your day will forever be filled with happiness.

Stand forever in Spirit’s love and light.
