Accountability

Accountability is our word for the day. The Mirriam-Webster Dictionary defines accountability as:

An obligation or willingness to accept responsibility

The world around you may feel like it’s spinning out of control.  You may feel like you don’t have control.  In reality, do any of us really have control?  We do however have accountability.  We can make whatever choices we wish to make as long as we have a willingness to accept responsibility to whatever outcome occurs.

I’m not a political person, but I recognize that we are now facing accountability to decisions that were collectively made in November.  Whether you voted or didn’t, the outcome is now coming to fruition.  That’s our reality.  The most important thing you can do is to be accountable to your own actions at this time.  You don’t have control over what’s happening on a global level or with other people, but you can be accountable to your own choices, decisions and behaviors based on the information you have at that moment.

Learn to respond to events of your life instead of reacting to them.

Reactions are trained while responses are a choice.

You have learned to react based on the experiences of your life.  Your boss says, “Jump!” and you say, “How high?”.  Does that sound familiar?  When you learn to respond to life situations, you stay in the present moment and make a conscious choice.

Even if you have made a decision out of haste or anger, once you are past that moment, take accountability and make a better decision to correct it.  Saying you are sorry for acting out of anger isn’t the worst thing to happen to you in your life.

Take a breath and let’s all get on with our lives.
